What I put in my bag

The biggest fear of moving to Full Frame, if you look away from the price, was the weight. But after switching from my old Fujifilm X-T2 to to Sony A7IV, I’ve managed to keep my kit surprisingly similar to what it was before, weight and size wise.

Primes for life?

Most of the time, like 90% of the time, before I got the Sony as well, it was my main lens with the Fuji and it will probably stay that way for a while with the Sony. I mainly used a prime lens on the Fuji and that was the Sigma 56mm F1.4 and now on the Sony it’s the Samyang 85MM f/1.8. I feel like this compressed look is what I feel most comfortable with while shooting, and using this lens just tickles that right part of my brain, especially when going from street to portraits.

Small personal essentials

  • Handwoven wrist strap: It’s a bit tight around my hand, but works nicely and feels safe, you can find them on Etsy or Aliexpress, or any of the bigger vendors out there.
  • Extra batteries: The battery life has so far been impressive, but i bought two spares from K&F Concept.
  • Bag of Hoya filters: If the back slot in my bag is occupied by the tablet, I will either pick an ND filter, or stow the kit away in another luggage if travelling for a longer period of time.
  • Tablet: in some cases it gets brought along, it slides right into the back slot, a bit tightly I might add, but it works. It’s an 11 inch Xiaomi pad 5. Mostly for viewing pictures or watching Netflix!
  • Assorted cleaning equipment: Got some cloth and air pump and a “pen” for cleaning/wiping off dust if necessary.

Thoughts and wishes

Currently I’m looking for another 50MM or 35MM prime, potentially a 24-70MM Zoom, so I have something in the wider range, but so far I haven’t tried out something that really makes me go “wow”, I did try the Sigma 24-70 2.8, it was a bit too bulky for me, at least that’s what I felt when trying it out the first time. Either way, with the prime I just have to move around a bit more and/or further away to get into the composition I’d like in some cases, or let whatever idea I have in my head just flutter away and try again for something new.
